APRC to Launch Regional Energy Webinar Series This Week

The Asia-Pacific Regulatory Centre (APRC) will officially launch its Regional Energy Regulation and Just Transition Webinar Series this Thursday, 4 July, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm Fiji Time.

The series is designed to bring together energy regulators, policy experts, and development partners from across the Pacific and beyond, to exchange practical ideas and approaches for improving energy access and regulation—especially in remote and islanded communities.

The first session, titled “AFUR Enhanced Tools for Mini-Grids: Lessons for the Pacific,” will showcase work by the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR), highlighting how their mini-grid tariff tool can be adapted for use in Pacific Island settings.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Tim Gill, Director of Climate Infrastructure Investments at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), who will speak to Australia’s role in supporting a resilient, inclusive energy future for the region.

Additional sessions scheduled in the coming weeks will feature:

  • Rural electrification lessons from CLUB-ER
  • Capacity-building initiatives led by the Florence School of Regulation
  • Case studies from Pacific energy regulators

Joel Abraham, Executive Director of APRC, said the webinar series aims to build a stronger foundation for regulation across the region. “Our goal is to help regulators in the Pacific build on shared knowledge and practical tools. These conversations are about action—not just ideas,” he highlighted.

A key feature of this series is the emphasis on South-South cooperation—sharing ideas and experiences directly between countries facing similar challenges. By linking regulators in Africa and the Pacific, the series aims to foster solutions that are rooted in real-world conditions and shaped by those who live them. “It’s about practitioners learning from each other—adapting tools and approaches that have worked in similar contexts and applying them to their own,” concluded Abraham.
